Sun, Jan 7, 2024 •

As we enter 2024, marking PEPA's 110th anniversary, we extend warm wishes for a happy year. This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to the community, and in this important year, PEPA renews its dedication to community engagement. We are closely monitoring decisions that impact our environment. Read on to discover ways you can get involved and make a difference.

Local governing bodies at the Town and County level wield the authority to make land management and other development decisions that significantly impact the environment in and beyond Purchase. PEPA monitors the initiation of applications and projects because it is vital to our environment's health.

Did you know the concept of "Think global, act local" was introduced in 1915 by Patrick Geddes, a Scottish biologist and town planner? In "Cities in Evolution," he emphasized the importance of conducting town planning with the environment in mind.

Recently, NYT contributor Margaret Renkl penned a Times Opinion piece advocating for charitable giving that supports organizations addressing climate change and environmental issues at the local level. These organizations:

Inform the public about environmental hazards in their own community.

Hold industry accountable and push for greater conservation measures in the private sector and at every level of government.

Work to protect ecosystems while they are still intact.

This approach forms the basis of PEPA's work. In fact, PEPA was formed in 1914, one year before Mr. Geddes articulated his concept.
